Journal 4: Verbal Communication

This week, I would like for you to address language and the ways that we alter language in different contexts.

You should change the channel this week by contacting 3 people:

• Call someone on the phone that you would not normally call.
• Text someone that you would not normally text.
• Write a letter to someone that you would not normally write a letter to.

Write a explanation of your experience and be sure to answer these four questions for each medium of communication:

1. How did your messages differ between the three media?
2. How did you show emotion in your language in each medium?
3. How much time did each of the three forms of communication take?
4. What was the recipient’s response in each instance?
